What’s the verdict on the new Google Ads Editor v2.2?

The latest version of Google Ads Editor, V2.2 is packed with new features, intended to make life that much easier when dealing with complex Google Ads campaigns. But, after using it for a few months, what’s the verdict? We asked some of our own PPC pros to share their take with us.

First things first, what’s new?

Before we delve into whether the latest Ads Editor update lives up to its promise, let’s take a look at what’s new:

A revamped asset library

One of the biggest changes to this version of Ads Editor is how assets are managed. V2.2 provides for better image management, with image upload, deletion and renaming, as well as the option to assign specific images to particular folders.

Notifications become more useful

The way notifications are handled has been changed, with alerts and a notification button allowing for quick access from your browser toolbar when an issue appears that needs your attention.

Visual scheduling

You can now visually edit campaigns without having to perform a CSV import thanks to a more intuitive user interface.

Global offers

If you’re running Performance Max or Shopping campaigns, you can make the country of sale optional.

Video campaign changes

Video campaign management has also changed, with suggested budgets for action campaigns, support for all video campaign sub-types and Target frequency campaign support.

Gmail is out

Along with all of the additions, there’s also been a removal; Google Ads Editor V 2.2 does not support Gmail ad campaigns.

What’s our verdict?

Our PPC team have been using V 2.2 for some months now. Here’s what they have experienced while managing multiple campaigns:

Overall, our PPC specialists consider the Google Ads Editor to be a highly useful tool for managing Google Ads campaigns. The recent release of version 2.2 has added several new features to make it even more user-friendly and effective.

For example, the addition of an asset library makes it much easier to manage images and assets. The new version also includes notifications within the editor, making it easier to stay on top of important account updates.

Using the Ads Editor in the past often resulted in errors when trying to copy an ad. This was particularly true for Performance Max campaigns which didn’t allow images to be copied however, we found that with new editor, you can now add and remove images which will make setting up Performance Max campaigns much easier. Typically, Performance Max is more time-consuming to set up, but it’s now easier.

Another of our PPC specialists agreed that it helped them. A notable example of this was when, there were 100 ad groups that needed to be created that were very similar but different campaigns, targeting different countries. Ads Editor was used to copy and paste the English ad groups to all the other country campaigns. We were also able to upload translated ads and ad groups in bulk to campaigns for Spain, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and other country campaigns. Overall, we have found that the updated Ads Editor helps to save time on what would otherwise be long and tedious tasks.
